Chapter Three
3.0 Introduction
For any research methodology shows how the topic should be approached and
perused therefore, in attempting to operationalize by research topic, the
researchers initially will explain the research design and why researchers have
chosen.
The next section of this chapter will highlight the target population and
sample size and sampling procedure of the study.
3.1 Research Design
This research project adopted a descriptive survey design. Descriptive
surveys are used to describe a behavior of a given subject. The impact of
information technology on organizational performance was a cross-sectional
study as it sought to describe data and characteristics about the population or
phenomenon being studied and it used a quantitative research approach
3.2 design of the study
The design which will be utilized in
this study is a quantitative research design, specifically correlation research
design. It is correlation because identify whether performance appraisal
practices correlated against employees level of commitment. By adopting
quantitative procedures, scientific and statistical approaches will applied to
provide greater accuracy to the conclusions.
3.3 Target of Population
In the first phase the researcher will be selected 4 companies out
of currently working 20 remittance companies all head quarter in muqdisho, the
capital of Somalia but has branches worldwide and all regions of Somalia.
The researcher will be selected the 4 companies based on their long
time in business and their easily accessibility.
According to the Somali remittance companies association annual
report, 2009, Somali remittance companies’ staff are estimated to be 600 only
in muqdisho.
In the second phase ,the researchers identify average worker per
company which is equal 600/20=30, so
that the researcher will be selected 30
person , 4 person of top management such as HR manage ,operation manger,
marketing manager and chief executive officer and 26 of companies staff to each
companies which made a total of 120 as target population from the 4
companies that will be selected.
Here below is the total population of research and their respective

3.2.1
Sample size
Approximately 92 of mangers and employee from the organizations
under study will be sample size in order to get a suitable sample size that
assures accuracy of the finding.
The researchers will be used
solvent’s formula to determine the
sample size , with maximum acceptable error of 5%
n stands for the

N stands target population
E stands marginal error which constant =0.05

3.4 Sample design
The researcher
will be employed one of the probability sampling technique especially random
selection because is the best selection method to use here in order to reduce
biases in the study and to ensure the study collect the most accurate and
relevant data that reflects the population.
3.5 Data
collection
The following procedure will
follow up to complete this study on time.
First, the researchers will
request students’ affairs office for DSU university data collection letter by
submitting researcher’s names and topic of study and their program.
After, receiving data collection
letter, the researchers will try to meet the general managers for the selected
remittance companies in muqdisho to get relevant information about the study
such as target population.
During the research the
researchers will request the respondents of the questionnaire to respond
questions fairly and honest and not to make bias and to not leave unanswered
questions.
Each subsidiary general manager will send an envelope containing
the following items: a cover letter explaining the nature of the study and
requesting the cooperation of the general manager or the head of human
resources, a copy of the appropriate questionnaires, and a self-addressed,
stamped envelope for returning the questionnaire.
After the data collected it will be organized, collated,
summarized, statistically treated and drafted in tables using the Statistical
Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 16
3.6 Data
analysis
This study will be used both descriptive and inferential statistics
to analyze the data Descriptive analysis will be carried out to describe
demographic characteristics of respondents.
As data captured from the questionnaires will be nominal and ordinal
data, only descriptive analysis will be considered appropriate. Frequencies and percentage of each respondent’s
demographic will be calculated using the frequency analysis.
In order to
assess the relationship between the variables involved in the study
particularly the Performance appraisal and employee commitment.
Pearson-correlation
moment coefficient will be computed. In this manner, the purpose of this
statistical test is to discover any existing degree of association between
Performance appraisal and employee commitment, and whether the relationship is
negative or positive.
Data entry and analysis will be carried out
through the use of the SPSS or Statistical Package for the Social
Sciences especially version 16.
